Join Librarian Sara for a Baby Bounce Storytime specially designed for our tiniest library friends and their caregivers. Each week, we will explore the magic of stories, songs, and movement in a welcoming space that encourages bonding and fun. This is the perfect place to meet other families, build early learning skills, and make memories with your little one. Baby Bounce is about 20 minutes followed by Stay & Play time. Caregivers are welcome to bring a blanket for their babies to lay on. This program is appropriate for infants and pre-walking babies, ages 0-12 months. Acompaña a la bibliotecaria Sara en la Hora del Cuento con Bebés, especialmente diseñada para nuestros pequeños amigos de la biblioteca y sus cuidadores. Cada semana, exploraremos la magia de los cuentos, las canciones y el movimiento en un espacio acogedor que fomenta la unión y la diversión. Repair Café Silicon Valley will be at the Gilroy Library offering free repairs and repair advice on a first come, first served basis. This community service organization is dedicated to encouraging the repair and reuse of goods. Repair Cafe will bring tools, materials, and volunteer experts to help you make any repairs you need on clothes, furniture, small appliances, bicycles, crockery, electronics, lamps, toys, and more. Their goal is to extend the life of everyday items. (To cut down on unnecessary waiting times during busy periods, one broken item per person will be examined. After that, you can join the back of the line if you have a second item for repair.) In 2009, Martine Postma began the Repair Café. This volunteer- run service encourages the repair and reuse of goods to avoid dumping them in landfills. Since the first event, it has grown into a movement with more than 2,000 Repair Cafés in over 30 countries.

Join us on Saturday, December 13 for a live performance of Christmas music in the community room featuring a vibrant mix of holiday songs by KC & the Dukes of Ukes. Hot cocoa will be provided while supplies last.  KC & the Dukes of Ukes met at the Gilroy Ukulele Jam, drawn together by their love of music and community. Original members Karen Chavez (the titular “KC”), Rudy Schuet, and Curt Hentschke (collectively, the “Dukes”) recognized each other as kindred spirits and jumped at the opportunity to focus on stretching their skills, playing a wider array of music, and improving their musicianship together as a smaller ensemble. Ryan Pittman began attending the Gilroy Uke Jam after COVID restrictions were lifted and quickly gravitated toward Karen, Curt, and Rudy as other passionate musicians who constantly supported one another, cared about improving, and reveled in making great music together. When Ryan joined the group as their new bass player, KC & the Dukes of Ukes were complete! They’ve been happily making music ever since.

The Reading Program, Santa Clara County Library District’s adult literacy program, is seeking volunteer tutors to work one-on-one with adults looking to improve their reading, writing, and communication skills.  Important Notes: Volunteers that have completed the required Tutor Orientation are welcome to register for one of our Tutor Training sessions.  Once you submit your event registration, you will receive a link in the confirmation email to complete your Reading Program Tutor Intake Form. You must submit both the event registration and the Tutor Intake Form in order to attend the Training. In the case you have not yet attended an Orientation: Please review the tutor requirements on our website and if interested register for one of our upcoming Tutor Orientations on our website.
